John Paul II Academy is a Catholic Regional Academy located in a neighborhood setting. Established in 2006, it is the first Regional Academy located in the eastern part of Louisville, KY. Evolving from the merging of three parish schools, it is enriched by the support of the parish communities of St. Pius, St. Barnabas, and St. Bartholomew. The Academy is located on the St. Pius Parish campus.
The Academy serves students from three years of age through grade eight. John Paul II Academy is accredited through the
Kentucky Non-Public School Commission and will be included in the AdvancEd (formerly Southern Association of Schools and Colleges) as the
Archdiocese of Louisville Catholic Schools are accredited.
The faculty and staff includes a full-time principal; certified classroom teachers; a licensed counselor; two full-time resource teachers; special area teachers, including: music, art, computer, Spanish, physical education, and library; teaching assistants; one business office person; office assistants; two full-time maintenance persons;
a full-time cafeteria manager and cafeteria staff; a full-time after school director; and after school care assistants. In addition, we are afforded the services of a youth minister, two religious educations directors, and the active involvement of the three parish pastors.
The facility houses classrooms, an art room, a music room, a Spanish room,a computer lab,
a resource room, a Minds In Motion Room, a counselor’s office, a faculty and staff lounge,
a maintenance room, a boiler room, a school office, a cafeteria, a library, and
a business office. The Community Center, also located adjacent to the school, is a fully-equipped gymnasium with
a stage and an additional learning space. A track and field area is located behind the main building along with an outdoor environment classroom. St. Pius X
Church is connected to the Academy by outside and indoor walkways.
